STORY
Carrilyn Bonafe (b. 1993) A self taught Latina multidisciplinary artist, raised in Puerto Rico. She has pioneered her own method of creating stylistically varied abstract sculptures using resin, powder pigments, acrylics, oil paints and natural precious stones. Her work is linked to the artist’s curiosity of the subconscious and the spiritual world’s impact on the material world. Addressing her childhood and adolescent trauma through her work, Carrilyn approaches the concept of healing through the art-making process and focuses on creating beautiful to fully express her emotions.
RICH IN TEXTURE & COLOR
The resulting works are a portrayal of the artist’s emotional state during fabrication. Her stylistic spontaneous sequences largely resemble the intricacies seen in rippling waves, or a stream of wind and natural patterns. The process begins with a calculated combination of materials, colors, textures which are mixed and fused to a multitude of surfaces. The artist then improvises allowing her mood & experiences to dictate the direction of the final works.
